While our class worked on various projects this semester (abstracts, literature reviews, articles, and interviews), the main purpose of our class was to learn how to effectively communicate science to a broader audience. This audience includes a range of scholars to the general population. Therefore, in order to reach out to individuals with the material that we learned through the semester, we decided to create a website that incorporates the multiple aspects of science communication that we studied.

We chose to include highlights and information that we felt were the most essential take-aways form this semester. Separating the various forms of science writing (science writing vs. scientific writing) is part of learning how to analyze the audience that the writing is trying to reach and what purpose the science report is trying to serve.

During the latter part of the semester, individuals from our class interviewed researchers at Virginia Tech and wrote stories about these individuals. During the interview process, the researchers met students for a video interview about their specific research. In the tabs above, there is a transcription analysis of the content that was compiled from the video interviews. Short clips from the video interviews are also included so you can get a firsthand look into the world of science communication.
